The Creeds
Have you ever wondered what the Apostle’s Creed or the Nicene Creed was, or if they were biblical? This class is will help show us the importance of creeds and some creedal statements in Scripture itself. It will also teach us about the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed from the reason they were written, how they came to written, and the biblical foundations of both creeds.
Week 1 – Why the Creeds?
In this opening week of the Summer Class, we take a 30,000ft view of the historical Christian creeds to see what they are in general and why they have relevance for Christians today because the questions they answered then are still being asked in our world today.
Week 2 – The Apostles’ Creed
This week, we take a closer look into the creeds by focusing our attention on the Apostles’ Creed. This is an early confession of faith written some time after the apostles that lays out the truths of the gospel as taught throughout the Scriptures.
Week 3 – The Nicene Creed
In the final week, we take our focus off of the Apostles’ Creed and focus in on the Nicene Creed. This creed is also a confession of faith, but its primary focus is the Trinitarian nature of God. The Nicene Creed was written as a response to a heresy arguing that Jesus Christ was a created being like the rest of mankind rejecting the deity of Christ.
